Coimbatore, February 14, 2023 – Love was in the air as Coimbatore’s Race Course Road welcomed an innovative solution for sustainable waste management – Metabins.
Metabins is a NFT based dustbin launched by digital-first waste management company, Cercle X.
Interestingly, it is the first time that NFTs have been deployed at scale in a city in India.
The launch, which coincided with Valentine’s Day, was part of the “Love for Kovai” campaign, and was attended by top dignitaries in Coimbatore.
The guests emphasized the importance of keeping the city clean and green, and how the Metabins system could help Coimbatore take a significant step towards sustainable waste management.
Zonal Sanitary Officer, Mr. R, Gunasekaran, who inaugurated the event, said, “The launch of Metabins is a significant step in promoting a cleaner and greener Coimbatore. It is important that we adopt innovative solutions to manage waste sustainably, and I believe that the Metabins system will encourage citizens to take responsibility for their waste and promote environmentally responsible practices.”
Mr. Ramasamy Raveendran, a prominent environmental activist, and office bearer of RAAC (Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore), also spoke at the event and highlighted the impact the Metabins system would have on the city’s waste management practices.
He said, “The Metabins system is a game-changer for waste management in Coimbatore. It provides an efficient and cost-effective solution to manage waste, which will reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. I believe this is a step in the right direction to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.”
The business community also welcomed the initiative, with Mr. Madan Senthil, chairman of Rathinam Group, stating, “The launch of Metabins is a win-win situation for the city and the business community. Sustainable waste management is essential for a healthy and prosperous community, and I believe the Metabins system will help us achieve that goal.”
The Love for Kovai campaign is a citizen-led initiative, initiated by Cercle X, and aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental awareness in Coimbatore.
With the launch of Metabins, citizens can play a crucial role in taking care of their environment and promoting responsible waste management practices.
Mr. Vishnu Vardhaan, CEO of Cercle X, stated that more such Metabins will sweep the city soon, and that his vision is ‘a cleaner and greener Coimbatore’.
